Suphi Ezgi (1869–1962) met Râşid Efendi when he was 17 (i.e. in ca. 1886), and guessed
that he was older than 70 years (‘onyedi yaşımda iken kendisine mülâki oldugum bu zatın yetmiş
yaşını mutecaviz [idi]’). (NATM/[I],

Veli Kanık (1881–1953) joined the mûzıka-yı hümâyûn in 1896, and recalled that Râşid
Efendi was also employed there at this time. The latter therefore died after 1896. See (Tanbūrî Cemil’in Hayâtı,
