Kommentar | Head neyzen and (after 1760) şeyh at Kâsımpaşa Mevlevîhâne in Istanbul. (Türkiye Diyanet Vakfı İslâm Ansiklopedisi, İA2/II, pp. 385–6)
In 1751, Charles Fonton mentions a dervish named ‘Arab-Oglou’ as one of the most talented musicians of the period. (BN4023, BN4023, p. 35)
Instrumental compositions attributed to ‘ʿArabzāde’ in manuscript sources are usually ascribed to Abdurrahmân Bâhir Efendi (1689–1746) in the secondary literature (e.g. TMAS/I, p. 13). However, on the basis of his biographical information, Arabzâde Alî Dede is more likely to have composed these instrumental works.
